Startup Stories is a series of short documentaries about Techstars companies.

This is the 2nd episode of a series of short docs exploring the key moments, struggles and passions in building a company. We think startup stories are fascinating and want to help share these amazing stories following the adventures entrepreneurs go through on their mission to build a startup. This video is on the story of Cloudability.

It all started in Portland, Oregon when Mat Ellis and J.R. Storment met. Mat was doing some consulting work for friends & former colleagues who wanted to get onto the cloud, mostly helping companies to devise a cloud strategy and architecture. His clients started to express how hard it was to manage their spending on the cloud so Mat built a service to solve this problem. He just provided the service for free, and it seemed to help. A few months later it broke, and his friends were again bugging him to fix it. He was so busy that he didn’t get around to fixing it. Soon their bosses all called, some of them threatening to sue if he didn’t restore service. This is when Mat realized he had a winning business idea. Mat and J.R. found each other and began building Cloudability.
