Protect Pūtiki support fund – Givealittle

Protect Pūtiki needs your help.

We are standing up to protect our moana. Whakahaumarutia tō tātou moana – protecting our oceans. Mana whenua, tangata whenua and many Waiheke Locals do not consent to the privatisation and taking of an entire bay which is a taonga to us. We say No to the proposed ‘Kennedy Point Marina’ and what we see as the extension of colonisation onto our moana.

First of all, we want to acknowledge everyone who has donated to our first GiveALittle (https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/protect-putiki-hikoi) for our hīkoi. We have had delays due to the stepping up of on-site construction and the need to stay on the ground and respond to immediate threats to Pūtiki. We still intend to do two hīkoi – one to Auckland Council demanding them to engage in a Stop Works and Review of the Resource Consent, and secondarily to Parliament to demand our Government stand in solidarity with tangata whenua and Protect Pūtiki and honour Te Tiriti.

We are creating this Givealittle for an array of needs that we have:

Legal: Funding will be used for legal fees, including providing legal assistance to Putiki Protectors for actions which took place before 30 June 2021.

Funds will also be for other legal costs including for legal processes and court action required to work towards stopping the Kennedy Point Marina (for example to challenge consents etc) as well as other legal costs which may crop up. This would not include legal costs of defending illegal actions by Putiki protectors which took place after 30 June 2021. This is to respect and adhere to the conditions given by Givealittle.

Transport: Having people come across to Waiheke to support, manaaki, connect with Pūtiki Bay and the mātauranga in this taonga,

Warmth: Kaitiaki who are swimming in the water need blankets, hot water bottles, gloves and beanies and more to be able to continue with these beautiful water dips during winter.

Money will also be used for other general living expenses as long as these are not related to promoting any illegal activity by protectors at Kennedy Point. This is to respect and adhere to the conditions given by Givealittle.

Any tautoko to help us Protect Pūtiki, call out colonisation and push for an Aotearoa that honours Te Tiriti and tangata whenua are appreciated. Tēnā koutou!
