The Eastern Conference was full of amazing teams this season and at the beginning of the year, there were no certainties about which team would have made it to the 2022 NBA Finals.
Fast forward to the Eastern Conference Finals, the Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat faced off against each other in hopes of booking a ticket for the NBA Finals. Say whatever you may want, the 2022 ECF was arguably one of the most enjoyable series of recent times.
Because most series in this year’s playoffs were decided by a huge margin and didn’t provide much entertainment to NBA fans. But this series was different as it not only went to seven games but also saw the lead being changed multiple times. At times, it felt like the Celtics would easily win the series, while other times it tilted in favor of the Heat.
After the dust settled, it was the Boston Celtics who won the series in a close affair. Considering it was a very close series, one might think that the Celtics’ players would at least pay appropriate respect to their opponents.
Well, that’s far from what happened when the 2022 DPOY winner Marcus Smart was mic’d up during Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

“This isn’t the Heat series. We can’t start back, you have to start up, especially if they setting it so high. You start up and drop because we’re chasing.”
There is no harm in boosting the morale of your teammates. In fact, that’s a special quality that teams are in search of in their leaders of the squad.
But disrespecting another team that gave you such great competition is no way to motivate your teammates. Whatever be the case, that motivation from Smart seemed to do the trick as the Boston Celtics now hold a 1-0 lead over the Golden State Warriors in the 2022 NBA Finals.
