Local entrepreneur wins African Travel Award – Mpumalanga Newshorn

Local founder of CTS Travel and Tours, Tebogo Shirindzi (38), has won the African Travel Under 40 award.

These awards honour exceptional young entrepreneurs who have made significant impacts within the African travel and tourism industry. Shirindzi, from Bushbuckridge (BBR), said winning the award proves that women in tourism, especially from the rural areas, are beginning to be recognised globally. “I am very thrilled to have been recognised especially now when the country is celebrating Women’s Month.

It’s a tap on the back to press on in what I am doing. This award also indicates that women are capable of running successful businesses and will inspire other women from rural areas in the industry and those considering it, especially where there are fewer opportunities” she said.
Shirindzi also said her dedication, innovation and commitment towards providing unique and affordable travel experiences have earned her this prestigious accolade.

Her journey into the tourism industry started in 2015 when she resigned from her government job and followed her true passion by starting CTS Travel and Tours. She previously also served as deputy chairperson of BBR Local Tourism Organization. “One of my notable projects is the successful Dikoma Cultural Festival and Tourism Expo held recently in BBR. The event showcased homecoming celebrations, traditional dances and mock stick fights, providing a platform to celebrate cultural heritage and promote tourism. I did not only contribute to enriching the local community but also provided unforgettable experiences for visitors,” said Shirindzi.

“I had a clear vision to provide affordable holiday and travel experiences catering to the desires of clients. CTS quickly became a prominent player in the Lowveld region and reached other areas of the province, also serving international visitors.”

She operates within Mpumalanga, offering extensive travel services and managing a guest house with 10 bedrooms, self-catering units, braai area and swimming pool. Recognizing an unmet need in the market, Shirindzi has also ventured into high-class private hotel experiences with tailor-made services, promoting remarkable tourism experiences. CTS’s vibrant, young and innovative culture ensures it remains at the forefront of industry trends and opportunities.

The award will be presented to Shirindzi on September 5 at the Akwaaba African Travel Market Eko Hotel and suites in Lagos Nigeria.
